Vier Stücke Op. 5 for
Clarinet and Piano

A pivotal figure in the Second Viennese School, Alban Berg's compositions marry complexity with profound emotional depth.

Although he was criticised by his mentor Arnold Schoenberg, this collection of miniatures now epitomises the early 20th-century shift towards a more lyrical and romaniticised atonalism. Berg weaves a tapestry of innovative sound-worlds, taking the listener on a dramatic but introspective and sombre journey.

Works by Buxton Orr

Scottish composer Buxton Orr composed two works for clarinet, namely, Refrains II and Refrains V. Both are wonderfully intricate and conversational in style with an air of mysteriousness and expressive sombre lyricism. View the collection of works on Youtube →
