Music for 18 Musicians

  • Royal Exhibition Building 9 Nicholson St, Carlton (map)

Steve Reich’s genre-defining Music for 18 Musicians.

Excited to be part of a one time only performance of Steve Reich’s genre-defining Music for 18 Musicians on August 24 at the stoic Royal Exhibition Building.

ABOUT
Under the cathedral ceilings of the Royal Exhibition Building, Orchestra Victoria will perform composer Steve Reich’s towering musical work: Music for 18 Musicians. Composed between 1974-6, this breakthrough work spans percussion, string, clarinet, voice and piano, creating a hypnotic sonic palette that broke convention through its warmth and sonic beauty, and became genre defining for the minimalist movement.

Accompanying this performance is a large-scale commissioned video work by New Zealand-born multimedia artist Jesse Woolston whose work will challenge the experience of natural phenomena in a glorious, emotional response.”
